Surprises

I like surprises!  When I walked into the local bike shop here in Nelson to pick up a rental for a couple of rides, they had a surprise for me in the form of an Opus “Nelson 2.0”.  Built up with a slightly non-stock spec including a Totem Sol…

Vacation

I’m in Nelson for a week, staying in the house I grew up in.  Its a little surreal as I am with my four year old son, and my family moved into this house when I was four…I am also recovering from a mild concussion, a possibly cracked rib and som…

…things I learned at the Vancouver Island MusicFest

Just a warning, in case the title didn’t give it away – this post has very little to do with mountain biking.  Sure, I rode one of my bikes down to MusicFest each day, but that is about it.
Through the course of living my life, I have had the good…

That trail, you know the one, its a ways up…

and you don’t ride it that often.  Maybe once or twice a year.  It’s right at the edge of the map, and its easy to forget just how worth it making that climb is.  I think every riding town has one.  In Mission, BC its “Bigguns” – up…

WE WON!!!

This weekend, me and three friends got together and raced the 12 Hours of Cumberland marathon XC race.  We didn’t have any specific target for laps in mind, and had discussed prior to the race just going out for fun.  Well – the “laid back” a…

Mechanical Lower Back Pain

“mechanical lower back pain” – there are days when this rules my life.  When it feels like my lower back is a nest of ripped and torn flesh, all wound up in a ball just waiting to explode.  When my lower spine feels like it…

How I got here

So – at the still young, but almost old age of 36, I’ve been around a little.  Believe it or not, but in my so far short time on earth I have spent 11 years in the Canadian Army, been skiing for quarter of a century and have been calling myself a…

Beer

I have to talk about beer.  I like beer.  I like to drink beer.  After a hard day of biking, there is almost nothing better than a cold one.  In fact, some of the best beers I have ever had have been after riding.
Its funny how at …

Ever have one of those days…

Well? Have you?  You know the type.  Everything (and I mean everything) just clicks.  You can ride faster, harder and jump bigger than you ever have before.  Well, yesterday, Saturday May 15, 2010 was one of those days.
It all sta…

Welcome to the Manchuary

Welcome.  This will be the place to visit to see what equipment is currently being tortured through my less than skillful riding, skiing, climbing or racing talent.  You will also be able to follow me when I get sent to amazing locations (no…

The “Why”

Welcome to the home of Braxton Consulting (a.k.a. Andrew Gower).

Before we get on with blog posts, philosophical ramblings, and reviews/reports on equipment I am looking at, let’s talk about me and why the hell I am doing this site anyways.

I get things stuck in my head that need to come out. I also do some gear reviews and testing on the side. This page provides me the platform to say what I am thinking, and pass on things I learn about life. Originally focussed on gear reviews and advenetures, the path I have been following has diverged somewhat, so now you will hear about many topics – all shared with passion.
