I’m not sure what to write today. I’m tired, and have been dealing with a lot lately – work – life – music – lots. The whole world seems to be a bit topsy-turvy today…

Hugo Chavez, long time leader of Venezuela died. I don’t know that much about him, but listening to the pundits do their punditing today has been very interesting.

Apparently his strategies for maintaining power included using very polarizing tactics and language, creating an enemy for his nation where one didn’t really exist, and passing legislation that would consolidate his power.

Sounds like he used the George W. Bush playbook. Ironically, George W was, for all intents and purposes, one of Chavez’s primary adversaries. During the coup d’etat, wherein Chavez was ousted from power, W stepped up to support the rebels – very publicly.

My uneducated look into the situation is that Chavez was lambasted in the West because he wouldn’t buckle to the US Hegemony.

Stomping Tom Conners also died. This is a great tragedy for Canada. I was at a meeting tonight and we were discussing the music genre he played. One of my friends described it as “folk”. Another insisted he was his own genre…

I think I need to learn all of his songs.
